Michigan Lending Laws and Regulations

Eight years in the making, a 13-bill legislation package was signed by Governors Jennifer Granholm in April 2008 and went into effect January 2009 to regulate the Michigan subprime lending industry more strictly.  The laws restrict convicted felons from becoming loan originators and require background checks on anyone else who wants to register with the state to become a loan originator.  These may seem like “no brainers,” but experts say it took the current economic climate to finally get the bills approved.  More information at the Everything Michigan blog.
